Meeting new standards in Rail Ballast

In late 2020, Karuah East Quarry met a new milestone as they supplied 40,000 tones of ARTC ballast on time and to spec for the opening of Glencore’s United Wambo mine.

Scope

Over an eight-week period Hunter Quarries Karuah East produced 40,000t of ARTC compliant Railway Ballast to supply to United Wambo, Glencore Open Cut Mine.

This ballast was used for the mines new railway infrastructure ensuring the infrastructure was delivered on time and on schedule, allowing for the mine to open in 2020 as per their Shareholder commitments.

Key achievements

40,000 tonnes was delivered within the project deadline, whilst we met the needs of our existing customers and their requirements.

A new drainage product was able to be produced to supply our civil contractors.

Due to timeliness of product supply, the mine was operational in 2020 as per shareholder commitments.

This was the first testing, confirming railway ballast produced in the new Karuah East Quarry.
